My Grandmother’s House

I have a lot of favorite Architects who are well-renowned...but I'm also very fond of my grandmother's house in Alabama, where, growing up, I had many enjoyable visits.

My grandmother allowed, encouraged, and even financed my building a huge, wonderful treehouse. On almost every visit, I got to add a floor!

My grandfather was a truly wise teacher in the early years (before he died). After he saw my first attempt at a treehouse structure (when I was about six years old), rather making me feel stupid by telling me it was all wrong, he said something like, “Oh. I wouldn’t have thought of doing it that way!” I learned so much about construction from that guided hands-on experience!
